Onboarding Resources

For all clinical placements: All non-employee students are considered temporary affiliates of UCSF Health. The authorized UCSF approver/manager (Affiliate’s Sponsor) will be responsible for ensuring the provision of access to UCSF systems and ensuring all requirements are met prior to the start of the term.

Note for undergraduate nursing students only: Onboarding steps and verification of compliance are centrally managed by the Center for Nursing Excellence and Innovation. All onboarding for other student types are facilitated by the UCSF approver/ manager (Affiliate’s Sponsor).

Students must complete the required training prior to beginning their practicum.

How to Obtain a UCSF Badge

All students and UCSF employees are required to wear a UCSF issued ID badge while on the premises. To get a UCSF ID card, you must first have your information entered into the UCSF system by an authorized UCSF approver/ manager (Affiliate’s Sponsor) depending on your affiliation. For undergraduate nursing students only: the badge request and approval process is centrally managed by the Center for Nursing Excellence and Innovation. Badge requests for all other student types are facilitated by the authorized UCSF approver/ manager responsible for supervising the student.

Collecting a UCSF Badge:

  1. Complete all onboarding and clinical requirements prior to collecting UCSF badge. It may be necessary to obtain clearance or verification of compliance either through the Student Information System (SIS) or by the UCSF approver/manager directly, depending on who is responsible for your student type.

  2. Student and/or UCSF approver/manager will receive an E-mail sent by Security once the badge and any applicable door access is approved.
