Required Training
Instructions
These courses are required for student nurses and clinical faculty who are not employees and are participating in clinical activities at UCSF Medical Center (Parnassus, Mission Bay, and Mount Zion), UCSF Stanyan Hospital, UCSF Hyde Hospital, and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals, and must be completed prior to starting onsite clinical hours to meet compliance requirements. Current UCSF employees who are also nursing students or clinical faculty must complete any outstanding courses to ensure their transcript is current. All returning learners must adhere to the required frequency of completion for each course (if a course is listed as an annual requirement, it must be completed annually).
You will need an active UCSF Username and updated password to login to UC Learning Center. Once your account has been created, you will receive your UCSF username and password reset link to the email you provided. You do not need to submit a record of completion to your UCSF manager or preceptor unless requested. All records shall be verified and maintained with your school. Completed training will appear in your UC Learning transcript and you may download and save copies for your records. You may access the required courses by clicking the links below.
Nursing Student Onboarding Training
These courses include all compliance and foundational training for all nursing students and clinical faculty. All courses listed are required once for all new students and faculty if not already completed, except for the following:

Annual Infection Prevention
APeX Proficiency Exam is required every 6 months for all APeX users
INP: SN 100-200 EXAM – REMOTE
Electronic Health Record Training (APeX)
These courses are recommended every six months, and for new users. The Apex Proficiency Exam, included with the Nursing Student Onboarding Trainings is required every 6 months.
Health Clearance
Academic institution assures completion and maintains documentation of the following prior to beginning clinical work:
Two initial vaccinations of HBV vaccination series, or signed a HBV declination statement
Evidence of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) and Varicella (appropriate documentation of vaccination or positive titer for each)
Varicella Immunity: Two doses of vaccine or positive blood titer test.
MMR* (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) Immunity: Two doses of the vaccine on or after your first birthday) OR positive blood titer test.
*If you need an MMR, be sure to get it AFTER the second PPD test.
Evidence of annual Tuberculosis (TB) screening in the form of:
Two documented negative* (PPD) TB skin tests, one within 3 months and one within 1 year; or
Negative Blood Assay Test for Tuberculosis (i.e., QuantiFERON) within the last 3 months
*OR If your PPD is positive: Proof of +PPD (test date and induration) and negative chest x-ray report within the last year. Please also verify treatment received if available.
Documentation of Tdap vaccination: proof of one dose of vaccine.
Tdap booster protocol or declination is required every 10 years from the date of the last Tdap.
Documentation of the current season’s influenza vaccination November 1 through April 30 each year: One dose of vaccine.
Documentation of completed COVID-19 Vaccination series and any booster doses as applicable is highly recommended but not required.
Additional Requirements
Academic institution assures completion and maintains documentation of the following prior to beginning clinical work:
Current American Heart Association BLS For Health Care Providers Certification
Criminal background check completed by a third party consumer reporting agency
Professional liability insurance coverage shall be not less than $2M
