The use of simulation in the development and implementation of crisis call management by a nursing team in a virtual care environment.

Maxine Rand, DNP, RN, PHN, NEA-BC, RN-BC, CPHIMS is the Regional Manager of the Remote Patient Monitoring Home Telehealth (RPM-HT) Virtual Care program at the San Francisco VA, a provider of healthcare services in the Bay Area, throughout Northern California. Past leadership positions include manager of multiple inpatient units at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, and Director for Kaiser Permanente Northern California inpatient services, prior to joining the VA. She is the author of several peer-reviewed publications and articles and completed the largest research study published on mobility in hemorrhagic stroke patients using electronic health records. She recently published results of a flu vaccination study for a large cohort of Veterans in the Journal of Nursing Care Quality. Following graduation with her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, she was an instructor in the California State University system for five years and Holy Names University for three years. She developed original advanced practice nursing and masters level nursing student curricula in informatics, technology, and data management. Her passion is nurse mentorship, operational management, informatics, and quality improvement. The 2024 UCSF Clinical Inquiry poster presentation, developed with her RPM-HT team's support focuses on a novel application of virtual simulation using Microsoft Teams © in crisis call management for a teleworking nursing team.
