Transitioning into Leadership Program

The Transitioning into Leadership Program is a six-month mentored experience for health professionals who aspire to serve in a leadership role or who demonstrate strong leadership potential. This program features some pre-work, a 90-minute mentorship workshop, as well as six monthly learning sessions. Participants will develop the awareness, knowledge and skills necessary to begin leading teams, units, or initiatives across health care delivery settings.

Throughout the program, participants will:

  • Develop a foundational awareness of their individual strengths as a leader
  • Acquire the knowledge required for vision-setting, change implementation, and advancement of quality and safety outcomes
  • Increase their own cultural awareness and humility, in addition to assessing and developing a plan to enhance one’s resiliency and wellbeing

  • Program Launch (3 cohorts*): January 2025
    • Each cohort is limited to 20 participants. All in-person sessions are held at 2001 The Embarcadero, San Francisco, CA.
  • Program Concludes: June 2025

Foundations for Excellence in Healthcare Leadership

The Foundations for Excellence in Healthcare Leadership program is a nine-month initiative for early-career health care managers, health care professionals leading organizational initiatives, or other health care professionals interested in enhancing their own leadership capacity. This program will leverage participants’ current roles to provide them with the foundational skills, knowledge, and awareness to effectively lead a team and navigate the administration of health care. This program includes some pre-work, nine two-hour monthly learning sessions, a 90-minute mentorship workshop, as well as an ongoing mentorship component. Expert facilitators, industry leaders, and trained mentors will aid in fostering the participants’ leadership development, reflective practice, and career cartography. Outcomes for the program include: 

  • Participants will develop an awareness of their individual strengths as a leader while producing a personal and career leadership development plan.
  • Participants will acquire the knowledge necessary for enhancing performance improvement efforts, fostering a culture of creativity and innovation, and increasing their own as well as their team’s cultural awareness and humility.
  • Participants will develop the skills necessary for successfully navigating the administration of health care, including financial management, change management, and project management.

Academy for Healthcare Leadership

The Academy for Healthcare Leadership is a seven-month program for experienced health care managers, directors or project or initiative managers who aspire to serve as a senior leader within a health care organization. The Academy includes some pre-work, seven four-hour monthly learning sessions, completion of a leadership project plan, as well as two coaching sessions. Building on a foundational skill set and thorough self-exploration, the Academy will provide participants with long-lasting skills to navigate an ever-changing, complex healthcare landscape and to lead and innovate to improve the delivery of health and patient care. Outcomes for the Academy for Healthcare Leadership program include: 

  • Participants will demonstrate an increased awareness of their leadership abilities and explore how their leadership impacts their respective units or organizations.
  • Participants will demonstrate an enhanced competence of the technical skills required for effective leadership in health care including financial, human resource, change and project management, as well as succession planning.
  • Participants will obtain the knowledge necessary for enhancing culture and community within their spheres of influence, including increasing diversity, addressing inequities, and fostering inclusion, resiliency, and wellness.

Leadership Academy for the Advanced Practice Provider

The Leadership Academy for the Advanced Practice Provider is an innovative nine-month leadership training program for physician assistants, nurse practitioners, certified nurse-midwives and certified registered nurse anesthetists. This initiative features pre-work, nine monthly four-hour leadership learning sessions, two executive coaching sessions, a leader shadowing experience and completion of a leadership project proposal. Throughout the program, participants will develop the awareness, knowledge and skills necessary to lead teams, transform health care and navigate an ever-changing landscape. In leveraging their current role and after completing this program, participants will: 

  • Develop awareness of their individual strengths as a leader.
  • Demonstrate competence of the technical skills required for effective leadership including financial management, health care policy and economics, as well as executive presence and communication.
  • Lead both their respective health care organization and the greater community in addressing inequalities.

This program will leverage participants’ current role to provide them with the foundational skills, knowledge and awareness not only to effectively lead a clinical team, but to also navigate the administration of health care.

This program includes pre-work, nine three-hour monthly leadership learning sessions, executive coaching, project-based learning and planned networking luncheons. Expert facilitators, industry leaders and executive coaches will aid in fostering the participants’ leadership development, reflective practice and career mapping. Outcomes for the Foundations for Excellence in Physician Leadership program include:

  • Participants will develop an awareness of their individual strengths as a leader while producing a personal and career leadership development plan.
  • Participants will acquire the knowledge necessary for enhancing performance improvement efforts, fostering a culture of creativity and innovation, and increasing their own as well as their team’s cultural awareness and humility.
  • Participants will develop the skills necessary for successfully navigating the administration of health care including financial management, change management and project management.

Healthcare Executive Leadership Program

The Healthcare Executive Leadership Program is a six-month initiative for senior or newly appointed executive- level health care leaders. Three multi-day immersion
experiences, executive coaching, and project-based learning will provide participants with the knowledge, skills and awareness to effectively lead large and complex health care organizations, facilitate and manage systematic change, embody executive presence, and engage in policymaking activities to advance health care locally, regionally and nationally.

National leaders in health care administration, policy and patient care will serve as instructors in this program, and aid the development of the participants in:

  • Enhancing their understanding of personal leadership abilities and devising a plan to improve the leadership skills of others within their organization
  • Acquiring the essential knowledge to participate in academic and workforce planning and policymaking across all levels, and to effectively lead succession and strategic planning initiatives
  • Fostering an organizational culture that supports effective systems change and quality improvement initiatives, ultimately promoting equitable systems across all levels

Program Timeline

  • Application Opens: July 2024

  • Program Concludes: March 2025

Executive coaching sessions will be scheduled between Immersions 1 + 2 and Immersions 2 + 3. Registration for this program is limited to 20 participants. Travel and accommodations for immersion experiences are not included.
