Student Placement Requests

Undergraduate Nursing Programs

Preceptors and Capstones

We kindly ask that pre-licensure students and faculty do not approach staff at UCSF to request clinical placements.

Cohorts

A cohort consists of students enrolled in the same course, on set days, and supervised by onsite clinical faculty.  All requests, approvals, and declinations for student cohort rotations at UCSF Health are facilitated through the Bay Area Centralized Clinical Placement System (CCPS) by the school administrator.  The affiliated school determines individual student assignments to UCSF locations.

Graduate Nursing Programs

It is the responsibility of a prospective student or school’s representative to secure a UCSF preceptorship or practicum. The Center for Nursing Excellence and Innovation and the Office of Advanced Practice are not responsible for enlisting preceptors or identifying placements for post-licensure students. A UCSF employee with an appropriate license and credentials may agree to precept a student after obtaining approval from their supervisor.  An active and current affiliation agreement between UCSF and the academic institution must be in place prior to the start of the practicum.

Advanced Practice Provider (NP, PA, Midwife, CRNA) students:

You must make arrangements directly with a preceptor in the clinical area you are seeking clinical placement. You will need to use your school network, personal connections, or the internet to make connections. UCSF Health accepts outside APP students but does not have a central database of preceptors and does not assign APP preceptors.

Once you have confirmed a preceptor at UCSF, please email the name of the preceptor to [email protected] and complete the APP student intake form using the blue button below. Completion of the form is necessary so we may verify that an active affiliation agreement exists between UCSF and your school.
