Executive Leadership in Academic Health Centers

The Executive Leadership in Academic Health Centers program develops the knowledge, skills, and self-awareness to lead AHC‑affiliated schools of nursing. Through three immersive experiences, executive coaching, and project-based learning, participants are guided by national leaders in academic health centers.

ELAHC is tailored to the unique context of academic health centers, preparing you to lead change, forge strategic partnerships, and manage the complexity of AHC environments. You’ll strengthen capabilities in team leadership, stakeholder relations, financial stewardship (including AHC “funds flow” and diversified funding), and career advancement—culminating in a business‑case proposal for implementation.

What You'll Gain:

• Understand the characteristics of academic health centers and the leader’s role in change and strategic partnerships.
• Build and lead effective teams and strengthen donor, alumni, and stakeholder relations.
• Develop financial management skills, fiscal responsibility, and insight into AHC “funds flow” and diversified funding sources.
• Prepare for career advancement in AHC settings and successfully compete for executive roles.
• Develop and present a proposal for implementation that employs a strong business case.

New and aspiring leaders within schools of nursing at academic health centers; non‑nurses are welcome to apply.

Program Structure

• Virtual Program Orientation: November 3, 2025 at 10:00-11:00 AM PT

In addition to learning sessions, participants will:  

• Complete a personalized leadership assessment and debrief.
• Participate in executive coaching sessions scheduled between Immersions 1 & 2 and 2 & 3.
• Engage in project‑based learning and develop a business‑case implementation proposal.

Program Expectations

Participants are expected to:   

• Attend the virtual orientation and all three in‑person immersions.
• Participate in scheduled executive coaching between immersions.
• Complete the leadership assessment and engage fully in project‑based learning.
• Develop and present a proposal for implementation with a strong business case.
• Arrange and fund their own travel and accommodations (not included in registration fee).

   Six months total, starting with a virtual orientation, followed by three in‑person immersions (January, March, and June 2026), with executive coaching scheduled between immersions.
3. Are travel and accommodations included?
   No. Travel and accommodations for immersive experiences are not included in the registration fee.
