Based within the Department of Nursing, the JBI Centre University of California San Francisco works collaboratively with clinicians, researchers, and leaders to drive improvements in healthcare. The UCSF Centre, founded in 2011, is committed to advancing patient and family care through teaching and coaching implementation initiatives within the JBI Evidence Implementation Training Program framework.

JBI Evidence Implementation Fellowship Program
This six-month program is designed to explore strategies to promote effective evidence implementation, with a focus on meso/macro system practice changes. The workshops are aligned with adult learning principles and experiential learning exercises, incorporating feature didactic teachings and opportunities for application.
This program offers participants guided opportunities to explore evidence and acquire skills in the JBI Practice Application of Clinical Evidence Systems (PACES) and Getting Research into Practice (GRIP) software. The program culminates with the publication of each participant’s Evidence Implementation Report in the JBI Evidence Implementation journal (impact factor: 2.0).
The overall objectives of this program are to:
Describe evidence-based healthcare concepts and how to practice evidence-based healthcare
Describe the basic principles of implementation science
Understand implementation theories, frameworks and models
Apply leadership skills that are necessary to implement and sustain a successful evidence implementation project
Develop participants' analytical thinking and writing skills that can improve patient, family and system outcomes
Discuss and tailor strategies to effectively spread evidence from a completed project
Conducting unbiased clinical audits and engaging in quality improvement processes over a nine-month period
Implementing frameworks and using software to get research into practice and apply clinical evidence
During the 6-month fellowship program, participants will use the JBI framework to guide their implementation. To best support the fellows during the program, they will receive mentoring in addition to support from other subject matter experts as needed. JBI Fellows will be expected to disseminate their work through both internal and external efforts.

- Day 5: May 11, 2027 (9:00am-1:00pm)
Fellowship Program Eligibility Criteria
- Alignment with UCSF Health True North Pillars
- Completed an improvement activity, such as a previous EBP, QI project, or CN III/IV project
- Project outcomes showed positive outcomes and ROI
- Topic is not specific to a particular patient population, with the ability to spread to other areas of the organization
- Identified clinical gaps related to the topic exists in other units / departments
Funding Opportunities
For the JBI Evidence Implementation Fellowship Program, funding is shared between the Center for Nursing Excellence & Innovation (CNEI), home unit/department, and participant (education leave hours). There is no fee to participate in the fellowship program upon acceptance. As a fellow, you will be entitled to charge up to 84 hours to CNEI for the fellowship component.
Note that 8 hours can only be used for each pay period. No training or implementation work can be paid as overtime.
The participant is responsible for using education leave or seeking unit sponsorship to attend any internal or external dissemination activities, such as the Clinical Inquiry Conference, Nursing Grand Rounds, and publication writing.
Actual schedules must be negotiated and agreed upon between the fellow and the fellow’s supervisor on a month-to-month basis based on the scope of work that needs to be accomplished. JBI fellowship program workshops and implementation time are considered time in lieu of—not in addition to—patient care. Staff will be paid straight time only; overtime is not approved for these training experiences or implementation work.
