Leveling Up with Health Care Finance
Leveling Up with Health Care Finance is a workshop series of three sessions that offers an opportunity to learn from experts about how health care is financed in the U.S., external factors impacting the finances of health care organizations, key finance terminology and how different roles within a health system contribute to the financial health of an organization. Health care leaders share their experiences, strategies, tools and resources, enabling all participants to gain new knowledge to positively influence the financial health of a health care organization.

Session 1: Overview of Health Care Finance (90 minutes)
This session provides an understanding of the big picture around health care finance and how individual decisions impact the financial health of the organization.
Objectives:
- Understand the financial models of health care systems in the U.S.
- Understand external factors that impact a health care organization’s finances
- Provide examples of how individual decisions at various levels of an organization can impact a health care organization’s finances
Session 2: Roles and Impact on Organizational Finance – Level 1 (90 minutes)
Objectives:
- Understand key financial terms and strategies that frontline health care workers and managers use frequently
- Describe strategies, tools and resources to support decision making at this level of an organization
- Explain different financial scenarios that health care leaders at these levels face and how they navigate them
Session 3: Roles and Impact on Organizational Finance – Level 2 (90 minutes)
Objectives:
- Articulate key financial terms and strategies that hospital administrators and chief financial officers use frequently
- Apply strategies, tools and resources to support decision making at this level of an organization
- Explain different financial scenarios that health care leaders at these levels face and how they navigate them

The Transitioning into Leadership Program is a six-month experience for clinicians and frontline health care employees who aspire to serve in a leadership role or who demonstrate strong leadership potential.

Foundations for Excellence in Healthcare Leadership
The Foundations for Excellence in Healthcare Leadership program is a nine-month initiative for early career health care managers, employees leading organizational initiatives, or other health care leaders interested in enhancing their own leadership capacity. This program will leverage participants’ current role to provide them with the foundational skills, knowledge, and awareness to not only effectively lead a team, but to also navigate the administration of health care.

Leadership Academy for the Advanced Practice Provider
The Leadership Academy for the Advanced Practice Provider is an innovative nine-month leadership training program for physician assistants, nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives and certified registered nurse anesthetists. This initiative features pre-work, nine monthly four-hour leadership learning sessions, a leader shadowing experience, two executive coaching sessions and completion of a leadership project proposal.
Throughout the program, participants will develop the awareness, knowledge, and skills necessary to lead teams, transform healthcare and navigate an ever-changing landscape as an advanced practice provider.

Program outcomes:
- Participants will develop awareness of their individual strengths as a leader
- Participants will demonstrate competence of the technical skills required for effective leadership including financial management, health care policy and economics, as well as executive presence and communication
- Participants will lead UCSF and the community through addressing inequalities and advancing diversity in health care and beyond
- Expert facilitators, industry leaders and trained executive coaches will aid in fostering the participants’ leadership development and reflective practice. The program includes some pre-work, nine four-hour monthly learning sessions, a one-hour group coaching session, as well as an ongoing coaching component.

Academy for Healthcare Leadership
The Academy for Healthcare Leadership is a six-month program for experienced health care managers, directors, or project or initiative managers who aspire to serve as a senior leader within a health care organization.
In this program participants will build on their foundational skill set thorough self-exploration and be provided with long-lasting skills. These skills will prepare participants to not only navigate an ever-changing, complex health care landscape, but also to lead, innovate, and improve the delivery of health care and patient care.

Healthcare Executive Leadership Program
The Healthcare Executive Leadership Program is an intense six-month initiative for senior or newly appointed executive-level health care leaders. Intentional and engaging residency experiences, executive coaching and project-based learning will provide participants with the knowledge, skills, and awareness to effectively lead large and complex health care organizations, facilitate and manage systematic change, embody executive presence, and engage in policymaking activities to advance health care locally, regionally, and nationally.

Population Health Management Certificate
The Population Health Management Certificate Program offers an in-depth understanding of foundational concepts such as relevant industry definitions, the drivers for change in health care delivery and changing models of payment, as well as clinical interventions and best practices. Certificate completers will also acquire the skills necessary for adopting population health methodologies and approaches in their own practice or leadership role. The program provides a hybrid learning experience where participants engage with online video content in preparation for weekly live discussion sessions that allow participants to ask questions and apply the content with program faculty and other participants.
Expert instructors, who are health care and industry leaders, will lead the session. This certificate program is ideal for:
- Health care leaders, providers and caregivers, who are interested in population health management approaches for professional development
- Health care leaders and employees who are interested in population health as a potential career
- Providers or clinicians, who work in a population health unit, but have no formal training
Participants are required to watch all video modules, complete accompanying quizzes, participate in online discussions, attend at least 80% of live sessions and complete program evaluations to be eligible for a certificate of completion.
